FX
Season 4, Episode 14: Willy Ward
Ronn guest starred as Willy Ward, a ventriloquist seeking a face lift because he is aging compared to his dummy double, who used to look identical to him 20 years ago.

Ronn's performance is affecting despite the tiresome 'ventriloquism = mental illness' trope.

1992

TV show   Scorch

6 Episodes (only 3 aired):
Pilot
"Dragon Flu"
"You Gaslight up my life"
"First Time"
"Scorch Likes it Hot"
"Money, Money, Money"

TV comedy series - the premise was that Scorch was a real dragon who got struck by lightning while flying around and crash landed in the home of a dad and his daughter. The dad (played by Jonathan Walker) is going to audition for a job as a weather forecaster and they end up pretending that he is a ventriloquist and Scorch is his puppet, so that Scorch can hide in plain sight. Ronn performed Scorch but did not appear on-screen (credited as 'dragon wrangler').

Yes, it was pretty similar to ALF.

1990

In the presence of HRH The Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon
In aid of the NSPCC
Filmed at the Dominion Theatre in London
Shown on BBC One

A variety show including a number of different entertainers (Paul Daniels, Paula Abdul, Jason Donovan, Lulu, Shakin' Stevens and more).
Ronn performed a very early version of the mask routine. The volunteer was a child (this being the Children's Royal Variety). It's a little clunky (the mask looks like it could fall to bits at any second!) and awkward to today's eyes, but the idea is there and would eventually be honed to the mask routine we know and love.

1990-92

TV show   The Ronn Lucas Show

Thames Television

A variety show hosted by Ronn. The weekly show format allowed for various interesting routines and innovations, including a double mask routine ('marriage counselling' with a husband and wife... involving clown costumes) Ronn walking the highwire with Billy on his shoulders (how did he operate the mouth? watch the left hand...) various riffs on the 'old ventriloquist stunt' of drinking a glass of water, Billy having his own smaller puppet and more.

TV show   The Hippodrome Show

Ronn hosted this variety show on British TV.

1988

TV show   Who's In Charge Here?

Disney Channel
Ace Award nomination
This is the much-loved special on the Disney Channel. There's so much feedback about how much people loved this/ wore the tape out watching it over and over when they were a kid, and I can see why - it's technically amazing (e.g. the balloon bit!) and the material is fresh and funny.

1988

TV show   LA Law

Ronn played Kenny Peterson, a traumatised man who could only communicate via his acerbic puppet (which looked like him).

Ronn does a great job of making the character believable, and was nominated for a regional Emmy for the role. What's particularly interesting is what Ronn has shared about the experience: "It was very difficult acting because I had to be insecure and withdrawn and the puppet had to be aggressive, outspoken and angry, so try doing that with a sad face - try talking angry at the same time. That's pretty tough!"
